Aims: The purpose of this study is to investigate the reasoning and cognitive style of Hassan Rouhani's government in response to U.S withdrawal warning from JCPOA and from any nuclear deal with the I.R.I after Barack Obama administration. Method: Using the analysis of some lectures and interviews, cognitive process of the President and his Foreign Minister, and also previous Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy during negotiations about external and domestic warnings concerning the instability of such a treaty with respect to specific and complicated United States Constitution. Finding: Assuming an effort to secure national interests and in accordance with the theory of cognitive coherence and the theory of schema, the Rouhani administration, based on its fundamental beliefs and assumptions about negotiating with the West (especially the United States), provided any new information and argument indicating the wrong direction of the negotiations and tried to maintain his beliefs/ assumptions about the West and the negotiations with it. Conclusion: The cognition and approach of political leaders towards their environmental information at the regional and international level, has an undeniable role in understanding the facts and setting goals, priorities and actions of countries. Hence, any cognitive error can have negative medium-term and long-term consequences for national interests.
